The Secret to Healthy Glowing Skin

Have you ever wondered how some people can get that natural, healthy glow on their skin? How can their skin be so soft and smooth? And it seems like they never have to use foundation or concealer? What is their secret to flawless and healthy skin? Like how can they even do that while you are still struggling with acne, uneven texture, wrinkles and all that?!

What makes the difference between you and them? Is it genetics? Is it diets? Is it the skincare products we use daily? Is it the amount of exercise? Is it just pure luck?


The secret unveiled


The answer, my friend, is none of that. It's simply just water. Yes, you heard that right. Their secret is nothing but just WATER, or in other words, it's the amount of water that they drink.


Yes, I know, I know, you've probably heard that a million times before, but important things worth repeating, so listen: water is the single most crucial element in a skincare regimen.


Think about it, up to 60% of our body is water, and our skin is the single largest organ in our body, so of course, our skin needs a lot of water to function at its optimal level. In particular, the skin contains 64% water, so it means water composes of two-thirds of our skin cells. It's no coincidence that almost anyone who has amazing skin shares that drinking lots of water is their Number One Secret!


So…what does water do to our skin?


What makes water so great? Water maintains the optimum skin moisture, increases its elasticity, and delivers essential nutrients to the skin cells. In contrast, if your skin does not get the sufficient amount of water, it will start to turn dry, tight and flaky due to the lack of hydration, which makes your skin less resilient and is more susceptible to wrinkling and other problems related to aging (such as age spots, fine lines and inelasticity).


If you wonder how many glasses of water I drink in a day, the answer is 8-9 glasses, which is about 2 litters. But this amount may not be the best for you because how much you should drink depends on your level of activity and exercise. Generally, the more active you are, the more water you should drink. There are many water calculator tools online to help you determine the optimal level of water you should consume in a day, so make sure to check them out to get a better idea of what works for you!


But…How can I drink more water?


You ask, and I answer :) Here are some of my tips to make drinking water more fun and easier for you:


  • Set a reminder on your phone every 30 minutes. There are tons of apps out there that help you set up periodic reminders every day at certain times to help you reach your water goals. I personally use Plant Nanny and I love it!


  • Add flavours to your water: lemon, cucumber, ginger, etc. the options are endless. Be creative! When the water tastes good, you will certainly want to drink it more!


  • Use a marked water bottle with indications for hours/ amount of water, so you're aware of your progress throughout the day.
