The Undeniable Power of “The Red Lips”

Have you ever seen a woman confidently rocking a red lipstick? What do you usually assume about her?

Confident?

Bold?

Charismatic?

Powerful?

Daring?

Red lips always have such a captivating power. A woman wearing a red lipstick is like a man in suit with a red tie. They both command power and attention. It’s a stamp of confidence and boldness. Not everyone can rock red lipstick, that’s why the ones who do stand out.

"Not everyone can rock red lipstick, that’s why the ones who do stand out."

Indeed, there’s psychological effect of the color red on the human’s brain. We associate red with power, sexiness, confidence, status and prestige. Simply put, wearing red turns head. The bold color catches our eyes instantly and the sight of someone wearing red is hard to forget.

Wearing red lipstick, clothes, or accessories help make a statement about who we are and what we stand for. When I wear red lipstick, I feel strong, sexy, capable, fearless, like I don’t need to give a damn about what other people think, I have my life together and I am glamourous.

Furthermore, red lips can instantly change your appearance. It can make a casual outfit more “chic”, make a dull makeup look more exciting, and make a shy person seems more confident than she actually is.

I wear red lipstick regularly, it’s a way for me to make a statement about myself and the type of woman that I want to become: strong, independent, and powerful. I have multiple red shades in my lipstick collection and I’m always on the hunt for a new one. Recently the Cockney shade from MAC Cosmetics grabbed my attention. It’s a bright, medium red with warm undertone and it fits me perfectly. It glides on so easily, is super lightweight and stay on my lips for hours. It has a luminous finish and leaves my lips feeling soft and moisturized throughout the day. It’s officially my new favourite red shade of the summer!

How to wear red lipstick the right way?

At this point, you probably feel inspired to wear red lipstick more frequently and wonder how you can wear it the right way. Don’t worry! I’ve got you! Here is my 5 steps to achieve the perfect red lips for your upcoming boardroom meeting, a date or even just a grocery run:

Step 1: Exfoliate your lips

Red lipstick will intensify the attention to your lips, so if your lips are chapped or have lots of dead skin, it will be extra visible to others. So make sure to exfoliate your lips at least once or twice a week so your lips always look soft and fresh.

Step 2: Moisturize your lips

Moisturize your lips with lip balm is crucial because without that protective layer, your lips may be too dry when you put your lipstick on, thus harder to blend and remove later on.

Step 3: Use a lip liner with similar shade to your lipstick

Lip liner helps you outline the outer edge of your lips so you can apply your lipstick neatly.

Step 4: Fill in your lips with a lip brush

This is when you can finally use your lipstick! Yayyy! Apply the red lipstick on your lips using either a lip brush or the lipstick bullet or even with just your fingertip. Different people prefer different method, so find one that works for you. For me, personally, I use my lip brush as it offers the best precision and I can control exactly how much lipstick I want to apply.

Step 5: Make sure there’s no lipstick on your teeth

I’ve been there, done that. I got lipstick on my teeth, quite a few times actually :( And needless to say, I feel super embarrassed when I found out that my teeth been pink for hours and no one told me :((( So now what I usually do is after I finish applying the lipstick, I would put a (clean) finger in my mouth and slowly wipe out all the lipstick parts that can potentially stain my teeth.

And voila, you just have perfectly beautiful red lips - one of the most powerful makeup look ever! Let me know if you enjoy wearing red lipstick or find these tips helpful! I’d love to hear what you think!
